Heat Up Your Key with a Lighter to Thaw a Frozen Door Lock

Below freezing temperatures bring a lot of little problems to your Cadillac that you wouldn’t normally think of otherwise. One of them is the door locks freezing. It’s pretty typical to walk out to your car in the morning and find a thin layer of ice or snow coating the car. Moisture can get into the door lock and freeze there, making it impossible for you to unlock the doors.

If you don’t have some de-icer handy for this situation, heating up your key with a lighter is the quickest way to thaw a frozen lock. Simply pass the flame along the metal part of the key for a few seconds and put it in the lock. This will help melt the frozen mechanism and unlock it. If it doesn’t work the first time, just try again until it does. This is a very handy way of getting into your car when you’re in a hurry.
